| Learn-to-Swim Programme Verulam
Swimming Club runs a
Learn-to-Swim Programme using the ASA National Plan for Teaching
Swimming. Val Chapman and Faith Nicholson have taught
hundreds of children to swim, many are
still swimming and competing with the club. Val and Faith like getting
wet too! They teach in the water with lots of help from qualified
swimmers from the club, so new and less confident swimmers get the
attention they need.
Children can join at any time after their fifth birthday. The first lesson is free and after a brief assessment, swimmers begin at an appropriate level. To encourage and support children, we offer the Kellogg's ASA Awards Scheme of badges and certificates.
Thinking of joining? Email us at info@verulam-asc.org.uk or phone Val on 01727 862890 or Faith on 01727 855302. Verulam Swimming Club provides swimming opportunities for all, at a level that is both appropriate and gradually progressive in standard. We place strong emphasis on teaching and developing swimming skills, and provide competition to suit all. This is achieved through Internal Time Trials, Intra Club Galas, Club Champs, Chiltern, Peanuts, Herts and Speedo Swimming Leagues, Open Meets (Novice, Sprint and Long Distance) and County Champs (BAGCATS.) Swimmers interested in joining can come along for a trial with a coach. Their stamina, stroke and diving abilities will be assessed to see which of our three groups (Juniors, Intermediates or Seniors) would best suit them. As swimmers progress and improve they move through the groups. We also have competitive squads for each of the three groups with their own dedicated training sessions. At Verulam we have a strong coaching team led by Zofia Kozien. We also promote our own swimmers and parents to become involved in teaching and coaching, on a voluntary basis and through professional ASA courses. Find out more about the team in who's who.
