A letter to swimmers about the upcoming Hemel Hempstead Gala

Dear swimmers,

As I sit shivering and watching the rain pour down it seems scarcely possible but it is in fact May which means that the Hemel Spring Development Meet is only just over two weeks away (19th&20th)!  I’m delighted to say that we have another full meet with just under 450 swimmers from 12 clubs entering nearly 1,900 swims – we’re very much looking forward to hosting everyone; it’s going to be a full-on weekend. …

Please advise your parents that this year for the first time we will be strictly enforcing the £10 fine for no shows; the objective is to ensure that we swim with as many full heats as possible to reduce the competition’s elapsed time – which is to all our benefit!  Withdrawals may be sent by email to this address up until midnight on Friday 18th May.  Thereafter withdrawals will only be accepted on the forms provided in the coaching pack and provided to the results table no later than 45 minutes before the start of each session.

We are, as always, desperate for officials.  Just to add to the normal problem of staffing a meet targeted at less experienced swimmers with less experienced parents, this year we have an obscure football match and some wedding to contend with.  Please twist your officials’ arms to get them to attend as many sessions as possible even if their swimmer’s aren’t competing – details to Ian Sewell (in copy). It is after all a development meet, and so will be much more interesting to officiate at than some Level 1 where everyone knows what they’re doing!

Details of arrangements on the day can be found on the website here, in particular, please remind parents of the requirement to register their cars at the kiosks in reception.

Kind regards

Andrew Farrow
